Fire! Fire! Fire! London’s Burning

Date: 29 July 2014 18:00

Dany Cotton has worked for the London Fire Brigade for 26 years, rising to the role of Assistant Commissioner. She was named as public servant of the year  in 2002 and won the Queen’s Fire Service medal in 2004.  Dany was the senior officer at the Cutty Sark Fire and frequently represents the Brigade and female firefighters in public situations. She is currently the Assistant Commissioner Operational Assurance whose work she has embedded at the heart of the London Brigade to ensure the safety of London’s firefighters. In 2011 she was voted in the top 5 of the 40 most influential women in London. In a career that has at present spanned 25 years, Dany has turned heads and opinions of those around her regarding the capabilities of women in what is still a predominantly male profession.

This talk is going to centre around the concept of inspiration. We will try to keep things very informal and Dany Cotton would welcome questions and viewpoints (pleasFirefighting+appliance+(default)e submit here)  in order to best use the time that we have together. She has considerable experience as a public speaker and has regularly represented the Brigade in local and national media, in the guise of personal interviews or to convey safety messages. Dany holds considerable interest in the development of those around her, mentoring within the Brigade as well as holding key positions in the “Women in the Fire Service” which seeks to encourage and inspire women to take up a role in the Brigade and to achieve promotion and self-development.
