Challenges of forming

Date: 19 June 2012 18:00

Mike Caridia, Director of talk will revolve around the formation of, it’s progress, what it sets out to do for the PA community and the challenges that running a site like pa-assist presents.  He will  also speak of his background, including his nine years as a child actor and how, at the age of 25 he recovered from a near fatal car accident that substantially altered his life and lifestyle.

Mike Caridia was born on the 2nd August 1941. Brought up in Belgium after WWII, he was sent to school in Bexhill-on-Sea before moving to Maidenhead in Berkshire. The eldest of three brothers, Mike attended schools in Maidenhead and Slough before enrolling at the Italia Conti Stage School in London in 1953. He carved out a successful career as a child and teenage actor between 1953 and 1962, making many TV and film appearances including that of Sir Reginald in the Norman Wisdom film ‘Up in the World’.

Having a keen interest in anything mechanical, at the age of 21, Mike moved from a successful career in theatre to an equally successful career in the Motor Industry – He spent four years with Volkswagen Motors, 14 years with Toyota GB as head of sales and In 1983, became Sales and Marketing Director of Lancia, a position that meant a move to Kent where he settled with his wife and two daughters.

In 1985, Mike left the Motor Industry to join a colleague and build a successful business that included training and organising conferences and events. In 1988 Mike sold out his interest and started MCA The Presentation Team – a business offering a range of marketing communication services from DVD production to a whole range of event/ conference related services including personal communications skills training.

In 2004, Mike sold the conferencing side of MCA The Presentation Team, to concentrate on Limited, in which he has a 100% stake. The business runs the UK’s no. 1 website for PAs, Secretaries and other Office Professionals with a membership in excess of 8,000. It is supported by advertising from some of the UK’s major companies and continues to grow.

Mike still runs bespoke training courses in public speaking, presentation and personal communications skills and has been involved, regularly, in helping organisations like Connexions to bring Business Skills to schools.

Mike is a member of the Institute of Directors and he still retains his membership of British Actors Equity which he has held since 1955 –  Other interests include Classic Cars, Scuba Diving and the Theatre – he speaks French, German and gets by in Italian.
