Public Order Policing

Supertintendent Craig Haslam, Metropolitan Police Service will provide an overview relating to:- Public Order Policing: (eg: various peaceful demos, the riots,The Royal Wedding, student protests, Annual Remembrance Sunday at  The Cenotaph, pop concerts, Trooping The Colour, HM The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and London 2012).  Craig will also talk about the support required for the smooth running of such occasions.   Craig will be accompanied by Tracy. his colleague and Staff Officer who juggles policing duties with supporting Craig.

Craig Haslam joined the Metropolitan Police Service as a police cadet in 1986 and following the cadets and basic training he was posted to Kings Cross Division.  In 1995 on promotion to Sergeant he took up a position at Hackney.  2001 saw Craig move to Hendon Police Training School  as a recruit instructor.  On promotion to Inspector in 2005 he joined the newly formed Royal Parks Command where he began his command roles on major ceremonial and public order events.  On promotion in 2008 to Chief Inspector he joined Westminster with responsibility for policing the West End during the many peaceful protests and some violent demonstrations alongside expanding his ceremonial role.

On attaining promotion to Superintendent in 2011, Craig became the Operations Portfolio lead at Newham with responsibility for delivering day to day policing in this part of East London, alongside looking after the new Westfield Shopping Centre and West Ham Football Club whilst planning to deliver business as usual in what is the main Olympic Borough Park.  London 2012 will prove to be a unique challenging opportunity for Craig using his vast knowledge and experience to aid a successful delivery of London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Outside of work his passion is narrowboats and he is Chairman of the Rivers Lee and Stort Branch of the Inland Waterways Association.
